Subaru Boxer Engine and Specifications

The Subaru Boxer Engine is designed to sit horizontally, providing you with a smother and quieter ride than when compared to other engine types. The piston's punch-counterpunch movements cancel out vibrations usually caused by engine fire and piston movement. Because the Boxer Engine design cancels these vibrations, it eliminates the need for other vibration absorbing components, saving you money on maintenance and repairs. The Subaru Boxer Engine is standard on every Subaru model. Many models feature the 2.5-liter or 2.0-liter Flat-4 Boxer Engine, offering you efficiency, power and smooth operation. At Rairdon's Subaru we also carry the Subaru Legacy, Outback, Tribeca, and Forester models that feature the Subaru Boxer 3.6-liter Flat-6 Engine, providing you with 256 horsepower.

Low Profile Horizontally Opposed Engine Position

Many engine types, such as V-type and Inline engines sit transverse or perpendicular to the drivetrain. The Subaru Boxer Engine sets itself apart by being placed in-line with the drivetrain, creating a much lower center of gravity and providing you with increased responsiveness and quicker handling. And the horizontal design of the Boxer Engine makes it almost perfectly symmetrical, producing a well-balanced vehicle that offers you the control and power you desire.
