The All-New 2019 Subaru Forester

Subaru of America officially debuted the all-new 2019 Subaru Forester at the New York International Auto Show. The Forester enters its fifth generation with enhanced passenger/cargo volume and capabilities. Enhancements have been made to the overall power and efficiency of the powertrain, and new breakthrough safety technology is being introduced for the first time on a Forester.

The Global Platform which was introduced last year on the 2018 Subaru Outbacks is set to be the standard platform on which all Subaru vehicles are built. The 2019 Subaru Forester utilizes this platform to deliver increased ride quality, stability, and crash protection. Along with the Global Platform, the new Forester will feature standard EyeSight Driver Assist Technology on all trim levels. The Touring trim will be introducing a segment-exclusive DriverFocus system which will help alert drivers of distracted driving, and automatically assist and adjust increasing the safety for all drivers on the road.

The all-new fifth generation Forester will be equipped with the latest version of the 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer engine. The new engine offers enhanced performance and efficiency with new direct fuel injection, higher compression ratio, and an active valve control system. With the new 2.5-liter Boxer engine the Forester produces 182-horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.

With its new enhanced powertrain and standard Lineartronic CVT transmission, the 2019 Subaru Forester will accelerate muc smoother and quicker than previous generations. This new system allowed for both an increase in performance and a slight increase in fuel economy with an estimated EPA highway fuel efficiency of 33 mpg.

The overall design of the new Forester introduces enhanced ergonomic function through a redesign of the external body dimensions. The wheelbase was increase to 105.1-inches, the C-pillar angles were improved, and the rear door openings were widened. This enhances the overall leg, hip, shoulder and head room for all passengers, and giving the 2019 Subaru Forester a much more spacious cabin. Cargo volume has also been increased to 76.1 cu. ft. when the rear seats are folded. The rear gate opening has also been increased by 5.3-inches.
