Subaru Outback

The Outback Is An Original - Just Like Subaru

The Outback offers a unique blend of legendary versatility, capability, and efficiency. It is the first thing consumers in the Auburn area think of when they think Subaru. This flagship model is the embodiment of the Subaru brand's reliability, longevity, and knack for spontaneous adventure.

What makes the Subaru Outback the preferred wagon in Washington state?

Outback is designed as a wagon, offering maximum capacity and capability, but it is so much more than just the family station wagon. This rugged machine offers both style and practicality. Outback has advantages even over larger SUVs. Up to 9.5-inch ground clearance provides better negotiation of uneven surfaces. Outback has a 66.1-inch overall height (with crossbars installed) making it much easier for items to be removed from the roof rack system - such as bicycles, kayaks, snowboards and oversized camping equipment. Say goodbye to the boxy wagon ideal. Outback is sleek and stylish with an aggressive grill, front bumper and stance. The ready rack system allows for easy accessorizing and gives Outback the versatility to take you on any adventure you can imagine. There is a multitude of equipment fitted just for the Outback to fit your needs, like raised roof rails with integrated retractable cross bars. Strong alloy wheels with different spoke configurations add to the style and agility of the different trim levels. A wide rear access makes it easier to load the cargo area. An optional Power Rear Gate is available for those who never seem to have enough hands. The hatch will conveniently auto open and a single touch on the gate button closes and locks the entire vehicle so you can keep up with your eager friends, kids, or four-legged friends. Clearance for the rear gate can even be adjusted for ease of access or if clearance is limited.

Introducing The Outback Wilderness

For those looking for even more capability and adventure, the Outback Wilderness has been redesigned inside and out with trail ready upgrades and advancements engineered to take you and your Outback anywhere. Exterior trim and cladding protect your wagon from the more rugged terrain and trail hazards. Front and Rear tow points help get you or someone else out of sticky situations. Front and rear bumpers have been redesigned to improve approach and departure angles to more easily negotiate obstacles. Redesigned roof racks ensure you can take all of the gear you will need. Dual function X-MODE gives additional settings for snow, dirt and mud. This important advanced safety and performance feature electronically optimizes every part of the re-tuned gearing drivetrain based on the condition of the slippery road or trail. Off-Road Wheels and All-Terrain Yokohama GeoLander tires improve trail performance and complete the package.

Outback comes with a choice of two horizontally opposed Subaru Boxer® engines. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque provides ample power for anything it is asked to do while returning good fuel economy - up to 33 MPG highway. XT models have the 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque for impressive power when it needs it. It is also efficient, earning an EPA rating of 30 MPG highway. Both engines are connected to a Lineartronic® CVT transmission. The horizontal layout of the Boxer® Engine allows for better balance and less vibration between pistons, which lets the engine perform more efficiently and effectively, as can be seen in the stats above. Gearheads will tell you working on a Boxer® Engine is more like working on an aircraft engine. It is made to soar! The added torque and power allows Outback to tow up to 3,500 lbs when properly equipped.

Synmmetrical All-Wheel Drive

Only Subaru offers standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive for superb traction all year round. The design of the system is rooted in its horizontally-opposed engines, which provide a lower center of gravity for optimal operation of the system. Within the system, there is standard Active Torque Split, which distributes power between the two axles depending on actual throttle response. Active Torque Vectoring is an enhancement on the standard Vehicle Dynamics Control stability and traction control system, allowing more neutral cornering, even off-road. Combined with standard X-Mode, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist, the system works to enable more control and performance on inclines and slippery road surfaces. This all-wheel-drive system is made for year-round capabilities in heavy rain, mud, and where the road ends and the fun begins. Dual function X-MODE is available Onyx Edition XT and Wilderness models give additional settings for snow, dirt and mud. These features surpass the capability of a lot of the competition, such as Honda Passport, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Edge.

Cabin Design

Outback drivers love how well laid out the cabin is. Outback seats five, with 32.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats. Fold down the 60/40-split flat-folding rear seatbacks, and there are 75.7 cubic feet of total cargo space available to bring everything you need for a weekend getaway, help a friend with a big project, or get your child and their Tuba to band practice. Drivers will enjoy the clean easy-to-read instrument panel, superb controls, and great visibility. A variety of interior material options are available based on trim level. Nappa Leather is available in Touring all the way to water repellent, resilient StarTex in the Wilderness model with embossed headrests and contrast stitching.

STARLINK is how a Subaru driver communicates, stays informed, and entertains. It is a hub of connected services, now including smartphone connections, such as Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. STARLINK offers enhanced service offered by SiriusXM, including real-time traffic reporting. Certain trim levels will include STARLINK Safety Plus and Security Plus packages that report accident information and stolen vehicle tracking.  Depending on trim, the touch screen measures 8.0 or 11.6 inches. The Premium Audio Package available on select trims, includes a Harman Kardon® premium audio system for a superior sound experience with clearer, crisper, more dynamic sound through Harman's ClariFi Technology that restores audio fidelity to a maximum.

All Subaru models are built to be safe and secure; the 2022 Outback is no exception. It all starts with EyeSight, the most advanced driver assistance technology in the automotive industry. It uses stereo cameras to sense the road ahead enabling such features as Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking, Vehicle Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keep Assist. It is one of the highest-rated active safety systems according to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. Other active safety features available on Outback include Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, as well as Reverse Automatic Braking and High Beam Assist when equipped with EyeSight. The available 180-degree Front-View Monitor and Smart Rear-View Mirror use dedicated cameras to help make sure your path is clear, no matter which direction you are headed. The Rear-Vision Camera adds extra safety to reversing your wagon and is standard on all Outback models. This suite of features allows All-Around Awareness and helps you avoid costly and dangerous accidents.

In addition, Outback has an available DriverFocus® Distraction Mitigation System to give you even more peace of mind and assist any driver, regardless of experience, in better attentiveness. This system gives alerts to help drivers that may have lost focus or are drowsy and help prevent accidents. DriverFocus® remembers the preferences and settings of up to five drivers. This convenient feature can memorize seat position, mirror position and even climate settings to help you get on your way faster and prevent dangerous distractions on the road.

The Outback, down to its chassis, was designed with the safety of all passengers in mind. There are eight airbags throughout the cabin, height adjustable headrests at every seat position and a high strength steel, ring-shaped reinforcement frame, all standard, for the best all-around impact protection. For these reasons and all of the safety features, the Outback was awarded a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the Subaru Global Platform and all of the safety advantages it can offer above and beyond its competitors.

An available full-sized spare will help you keep rolling even when the unexpected happens.
