On April 5th, at the New York International Auto Show, Subaru introduced the latest member of the Wilderness family of vehicles. Joining the Forester and Outback before it, the Subaru Crosstrek will now have a Wilderness trim level of its own in the new model year. With the model having just made its debut, we wanted to take an opportunity to give you the rundown on the unique features that will be found in the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness upon its release date, which is scheduled for sometime this fall.

Updated Features & Enhancements

The first-ever Crosstrek Wilderness will be powered by a 2.5L BOXER engine capable of generating 182 horsepower alongside 176 pound-feet of torque. Tethered to this engine will be a drivetrain outfitted with an enhanced differential gear ratio of 4.111 as well as a Lineartronic CVT that has been tuned in such a way to maximize traction both when driving at slower speeds and on surfaces that might typically cause slipping and sliding. In addition, engineers added a transmission oil cooler, which improves the crossover’s maximum towing capacity to 3,500 pounds, which is far more than the standard Crosstrek can haul.

Outside of the powertrain, the vehicle has been outfitted with a number of off-road-ready features and upgrades as well. For starters, the vehicle’s ground clearance has been raised to 9.3” to accommodate rougher terrain thanks to longer coil springs and shock absorbers. Other things that have been made longer include the travel strokes – which make sure tires keep contact over rough terrain – and the dampening compression stroke – which leads to a smoother riding experience.

Importantly, three angles have been increased as well, enhancing off-road capabilities even further. These are the approach angle (20°), the departure angle (33°) and the ramp breakover angle (21.1°).

Unique Design Cues

Firstly, the Crosstrek Wilderness will be decked out with GEOLANDAR all-terrain tires wrapped around an exclusive set of 17” alloy wheels finished in matte black and embossed with raised white letters. We started with these because they’re technically both design cues and an off-road enhancement. Of course, the same can be said of some of the other design cues, which help protect the vehicle from damage while off-roading.

This includes things like updated front and rear bumpers, a metal front skid plate, a unique set of LED fog lights and grill both featuring a hexagonal design, an anti-glare matte-black hood decal and larger cladding around the wheel arches. Of course, Wilderness badging can be found on various parts of the vehicle.

The interior cabin features several unique design cues of its own, including StarTex upholstery, copper contrast stitching, anodized copper accents, both Black and Gunmetal Grey trim, all-weather floor mats and a  water-resistant rear cargo tray.

While this covers a lot of what the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness has to offer, there are still even more features and unique elements that we didn’t cover. Feel free to give us a call with any questions!
