Fans of extreme sports and/or motorsports will likely recognize the name Travis Pastrana. He’s an award-winning motorsports performer and stunt driver who really rose to fame by creating the show Nitro Circus on MTV. His career in rally started for a Subaru-backed team, and now today he is signed to Subaru Motorsports USA. While he will soon return to the American Rally Association Championship behind the wheel of an all-new WRX rally car, earlier this year he performed for Subaru at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. So, what did he participate in, and how did he perform?

Even earlier his year, Pastrana participated in Gymkhana 2022 where he drove behind the wheel of a 1983 Subaru GL wagon – known as the Family Huckster. Now, at the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed, the stunt driver once again slid into the driver’s seat of the Family Huckster but this time for the always-popular Hillclimb Shootout competition.

Hillclimb Shootout Competition

The Hillclimb Shootout competition is a popular event that takes place every year during the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Throughout the whole festival vehicles participate in the Hillclimb, then on Sunday the Shootout brings the fastest times of the week together for a race to the finish line. This year the incredible Subaru vehicle, which packs a powerful punch of 862 horsepower, lined up against some pretty incredible vehicles, including a pair of Formula One cars and an astounding McLaren Solus GT, which is a four-million-dollar concept car based on F1 cars.

While the Huckster finished first in its class through the week, that ridiculously pricey McLaren was the one and only vehicle able to edge it out during the Hillclimb Shootout. However, it only did it by a literal second. We’re super proud of Pastrana and the souped up ‘86 Subaru GL and cannot wait to see what’s next for both of them.

While we don’t know what’s next for the Family Huckster, we do know what’s next for Pastrana. As mentioned earlier, he’ll be participating in this year’s American Rally Association Championship series. Pastrana left the sport for a year but this will mark his return and he’ll be doing it behind the wheel of an all-new Subaru WRX. We cannot wait to see it!
